As a photographer, I am fascinated by light. My favorite times of the day are sunrise and sunset because the light changes so beautifully in such a short time. Mastering the use of light shaping and diffusing to create the desired image is something I love to practice.
When I saw Adele’s latest album cover, I fell in love with the lighting used in her images. Unable to climb the stairs to get into the studio, I had one light brought downstairs and tried the invisible black background method in my dining room. I just played around with placing the light in different areas until I liked the fall off. I wanted to visually see the changes and the degrees of the angles in real time, so this set-up worked well. Sometimes you can learn even more than you think just playing with light.
My version of this image used a little more light, and the post-processing stayed in color. I also used an iPhone instead of an old-fashioned phone to give it a modern twist.
